Loch Lomond is 23 miles long and is the largest inland waterway in Great Britain. The area is now Scotland's first National Park, which is a fitting accolade to one of the most beautiful and romantic places in the world. The loch separates the highlands and the lowlands, which creates the most amazing scenery with rounded hills on one side to rugged mountains on the other side. The loch gets used for many activities such as fishing, water sports and for romantic walks.
Locally, there are lots of small towns and villages such as Balloch, Tarbet, Luss, Crianlarich, Arrochar and Helensburgh. They all have there own beautiful scenery, places to visit and things to do.
Glasgow is 30 minutes from Auchenheglish Lodges and is the largest city in Scotland. Known as the second city of the empire it has a great history and character. Having recently won the City of Culture award there are lots of art galleries and museums. For the more adventurous there is the nightlife with Glasgow having many trendy and traditional nightclubs and pubs. If you enjoy shopping then this is the place to go with plenty of shopping centres and lots of different shops for everyone.
Edinburgh is the capital of Scotland and is only 75 minutes from Auchenheglish lodges. It is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Edinburgh Castle as a backdrop is situated in the centre of the city and is a great day out. It is also a city that oozes class and style and has something for everyone. During August it holds the world famous Edinburgh Festival and Tatoo.
There are walks and cycle paths along the loch side with golf, boating, fishing and horse riding available locally. The fishing is one of the best in Scotland, with Loch Lomond containing salmon, sea trout, brown trout and is legendary for its pike, being one of Scotland's premier pike waters. There are 16 local golf courses that give you a feast of opportunities; plus there is the exclusive Loch Lomond course, with it’s World Invitation Open championship and holders of the Solheim Cup.
Within a short walk there is a choice of five restaurants/bars. Duck Bay Marina boasts two excellent restaurants providing both à la carte dining and bar meals plus a nightclub and it is only five minutes walk along the lochside. The Crannog bar/restaurant is also a five-minute walk and overlooks the loch to Ben Lomond. The famous Cameron House Hotel (five star) is just 200 yards beyond Duck Bay Marina offering various restaurants, bars and lounges it also provides facilities such as shooting, fishing, quad-biking, water sports, massage and beauty therapy.
A short taxi ride or a 30-minute walk along the lochside is the nearby town of Balloch where you will find various bars and restaurants.
